Several days after the history making event the national day of action. Although some of our voices were heard loud and clear, I am not sure if we made much impact. unless of course it was to piss off some folks trying to get to the cottage or maybe doing some business with the use of trains and tracks. in the end maybe that is why the protest was called. The powers in Ottawa maybe decided they needed to create a little more animosity towards the First Nations(as if not enough already) so design a day in which non natives is slowed down, and what better time to do so then the friday before the long weekend in June. Reports on the broadcast media were that all roads leading east and west through Ontario are blocked stopped, life it be at a stand still on the Tyendinaga Rez...this was not true, people could pass albeit they would have a few min wait time while material was handed out to indicate the severity that the lack of funding and access to land, heath and education resources would be to First Nations communities. Media being what they are and how they work is moving the focus away from the issues, lack of funding, heath, access to resources, and education...and spotlighting the efforts of one man with a quarry a bus and a dream...
I ask all that read this to contact your member of parliament and ask the questions, Why are people on First Nations lands not dealt with in a proper manner, did we not make treaties, why are these treaties not been followed?
but until then why not sit a spell and grab handful of The Voices
