Uranium action needs you and your funding!!! check it out.

Hello,
Apologies for the mass email and/or if you already know about this event.

Attached is a letter of request for support for a Fund & Friend Raiser for the
Community Coalition Against Mining Uranium (CCAMU) and the Algonquin First Nations. We are opening up The Boiler Room on Nov. 10th from 5-9pm for climbing and for meeting the people who are on the front lines of this important environmental and social justice issue.

CCAMU and the First Nations have been raising awareness and providing education about several complex and related issues - including the environmental danger to water and land resources of uranium mining, native land rights, updating of the archaic Mining Act and the expansion of nuclear energy in Ontario. In particular, they are trying to stop the development of a uranium mine just north of Sharbot Lake and negotiate for settlement of the land claim.

If you can participate and bring your friends, donate an item to our silent auction, or pass this request along to someone who can, we would very much appreciate it. Items donated to the auction will be displayed throughout the event and will be paired with any promotional information (business cards or flyers) that you'd like to supply.

If you can please forward this notice widely,
Many thanks,
Cathy Wills

Questions at the KACIN candidate Forum

Number 1:
The first question was concerning the loss of employment and training programming for Aboriginal peoples.

Those losses point to the need for more communication between the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy and Employment Ontario.

The speakers were asked to describe a structure that would improve the sharing information and concerns.

Number 2:
Kingston has no land base for aboriginal peoples to practice their traditional teachings and ceremonies.

Candidates were first asked the importance of the issue to their party?

Secondly, what resources were the candidates willing to provide to the first Nations communities of Kingston.

Number 3:
Currently, there is a Provincial mandate to develop more off-reserve Aboriginal housing.

Candidates were asked how there party would consult and build capacity with urban Aboriginal housing providers to directly deliver and manage this housing.

Number 4:
The Ministry of Education recently implemented an Aboriginal Education Framework for school boards.

The question posed to candidates asked for their strategy to deliver these policies and directives for Aboriginal children.

Number 5:
Most Aboriginal peoples in Ontario life off-reserves in urban centers, such as Kingston.

The candidates were asked how their parties would deal with particular urban issues, including housing, child welfare and medical services.

Furthermore, how would candidates actively consult with Aboriginal service providers on funding and delivery.
