TORONTO — Seven aboriginal protesters jailed over disputes with mining
companies have been freed from jail following a decision by the
Ontario Court of Appeal today.
Six leaders from the KI First Nation in northern Ontario were jailed
March 17 for disobeying court orders in an ongoing dispute with
Platinex Inc. A seventh protester from the Ardoch Algonquin First
Nation was jailed in February for a similar court breach in eastern
Ontario.
The six KI members were freed temporarily last Friday after being
sentenced to six months in jail.
The Appeal Court judges ruled that all seven would have their
sentences reduced to time served.
The judges reserved their reasons for the ruling.

dance hall days
had Doug and I talking about things pertaining the native experience in Canada, well stuff that pertained to my experience since last week.
Byron Chief Moon is on Showcase some place. I mentioned that I the chance to meet this dancer from out west, when I attended the Banff center for the arts. it was a native dance symposium. I know what your thinking..."what were you doing at a native dance symposium" I ask my self the same thing sometimes. it was all interpretive dance...but with a native slant, but I think to myself all these preconceived notions on the airplane trip out to the mountains of Alberta...isen't all native dance interpretive, and yes for most of us Pow Wow dancing is the most we will ever see on that matter. but what this Byron Chief Moon has to offer is more story or play set to images on backdrop screens and for you the viewer your entertained, your mind altered to a new understanding...
or something like that.
also in the area of dance is a program produced by Tracee Smith called "outside looking in" here is their mission statment
"Our mission is to provide opportunities for self-expression to First Nations youth through the arts; and for Canadians to learn about First Nations people through performance."
